What is AIRE?
AIRE (Anagrafe degli Italiani Residenti all'Estero) is the register of Italian citizens living abroad. Registration is mandatory by law if you reside outside Italy for more than 12 months.
Is registration mandatory?
Yes. Since January 2024, failure to register carries fines of up to €1,000 per year. Additionally, without AIRE you cannot access consular services (passport, CIE) in the UK.
What documents do I need?
For registration: Italian ID document, UK proof of address, and your personal details. For update or transfer: ID document and proof of new address. We ask for everything after payment in a simple form.
How long does it take?
We prepare and submit within a few working days. Consulate confirmation times vary: typically 2-8 weeks depending on workload.
What does SPID have to do with AIRE?
From 31 March 2026, traditional FAST IT credentials will no longer be valid. You'll need SPID or CIE for Italian online services. AIRE registration is the first step to obtaining these digital documents from the UK.
