Glossary (plain language)

AIRE

Registry of Italians living abroad. You need it up to date to use many consular services.

CIE

Italian electronic ID card. Often needed for ID checks and some online services.

SPID

Digital identity login for Italian public services. Think “secure login” for government portals.

NIN

National Insurance Number (UK). Needed to work and pay contributions/tax.

FAST-IT

Italian consular online portal (e.g. for AIRE). Not always fast in practice — we walk you through it.

GHIC

UK Global Health Insurance Card for medically necessary treatment in the EU.
